Old Capitol Museum
The sweeping staircases and stately elegance of the historic Old Capitol is the ideal backdrop for a picture-perfect wedding. Located in the heart of Iowa City, the building served as the state of Iowa's first capitol from 1846 to 1857 and became a National Historic Landmark in 1976. The Old Capitol's dome is featured in the University of Iowa's logo and remains one of the most recognizable landmarks in the state of Iowa.
Today, the Capitol serves as a public museum featuring restored historic rooms and gallery spaces with rotating temporary exhibits. Several of these rooms are available for event booking, including the beautiful Senate Chamber. Smaller groups might enjoy the Supreme Court Chamber, or even the grand staircase, for their wedding ceremonies.
